FW bike distribution at Welch Middle School
FW bike distribution at Welch Middle School
12/02/2024 4:15 pm - 6:15 pm
Louie Welch Middle School, 11544 S Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77071, USA
Refugee students must walk 40 minutes from their apartments to Welch Middle School at South Gessner and West Bellfort in southwest Houston. Freewheels will provide bikes, helmets and locks to 16 students who participate in PAIR Houston's afterschool program.
At this event, we will provide a bike safety briefing, fit helmets, teach proper use of the locks and fit the bikes. We will help the students with a test ride.
We've arranged for a delivery service to bring the bikes, so we can meet at the school. We hope seven people will be able to attend.
Please watch for updates on the schedule and program.

Freewheels/Boys & Girls Club Santa Project/Raising Cane's
Freewheels/Boys & Girls Club Santa Project/Raising Cane's
12/20/2024 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Boys & Girls Club-Greater Houston, 5950 Selinsky Rd, Houston, TX 77048, USA
Raising Cane's restaurants is teaming with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston for their Fifth Annual Holiday Bike Giveback--and they want Freewheels to help.
We've been asked to lend our mission-driven bicycle expertise to help distribute bikes to kids as part of The Boys & Girls Club Santa Project event on Friday, Dec. 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club location, 5950 Selinsky Rd, Houston, TX 77048.
We don't have to assemble the bikes; we will help get the children on bikes. To show their appreciation for our participation, Raising Cane's will donate funds to pay for 10 Gravity BaseCamp bikes--more than $1,700.
"It all started with Raising Cane’s owner, Todd Graves and the memories of the joy he felt when receiving his very first bicycle as a kid," said Ava Hernandez, the company's regional marketing director. "This holiday memory left such an impression that he wanted to share it with others who may not have the opportunity to experience the same joy. In our fifth consecutive year, Todd and Raising Cane’s have partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and other local charities across the country to spread joy through the receiving of a bicycle."
It will be good to have a strong Freewheels contingent at this event. Please RSVP if you can make it. We will send at least one more update/reminder.
