At Freewheels, the action unfolds at the bike shop – volunteers prepping and repairing bikes donated by our neighbors. A recent update from one of our resettlement partners – ECDC – Houston Multicultural Center – reminded us of the human momentum of our program.

Meet Sayed Ghafoor Rawoof.
When Sayed and his family arrived in Houston, they faced the immense challenge of starting over. Four adults in the household needed to find work, learn a new language, and navigate a sprawling city. They did the hard work: ESL classes, resume workshops and interview prep.
But preparedness only goes as far as your transportation allows.
Through our partnership with the ECDC team, Freewheels provided three bicycles to the Rawoof family. Those bikes became the critical link between their training and their paychecks. Today, all four adults are employed full-time.
Beyond the commute, Sayed shared how the bikes helped the family find their footing in a quiet, personal way. In the midst of the chaos of relocation, he found peace on two wheels, telling his counselor:
“Receiving bicycles has helped our family a lot. When I am riding the bicycle, my mind is stable.”
In a city as big as Houston, a bicycle is more than just transportation. It is the ability to visit a neighbor, get to a store, and feel a sense of peace in a new environment.
Your support makes this stability possible. By supporting Freewheels, you’re giving families like the Rawoofs the agency to build a new life with dignity.
