Support bicycles for refugees
In addition to bicycle donations and the work of volunteer mechanics, Freewheels Houston relies on financial support from the community to achieve our mission: distributing reliable used bicycles to refugees who have resettled in Houston and need alternatives to walking and public transportation.
Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Freewheels Houston through Christ the King Lutheran Church by clicking on the "Donate Now" button.
Our goal is to provide bikes that are useful for recipients riding the streets of Houston. We equip each adult bicycle with front and rear lights for visibility, effective U-locks for security, baskets for convenience and pumps and flat-tire repair kits to recover from inevitable mishaps. We provide new helmets to every recipient through a generous program sponsored by the Texas Medical Association.
To make sure bikes are safe and as useful as possible, we spend about $100 for parts, repairs and to equip each one with essential equipment:
- Front and rear lights for visibility: $12.50
- Effective U-locks for security: $25
- Baskets for convenience: $15
- Pumps and flat-tire repair kits to recover from inevitable mishaps: $16.50
Each recipient gets a new helmet through a program sponsored by the Texas Medical Association.
Freewheels Houston is a project of Christ the King Lutheran Church with partners that include BikeHouston, Refugee Services of Texas, Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, Bike Barn, Rice Bikes and the Texas Medical Association.
If you prefer to donate by check, please make it payable to Christ the King Lutheran Church and note on your check that the contribution is for Freewheels Houston. Please mail the check to Christ the King Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77005.
