Your $60 donation to Freewheels will get a bike and rider ready to roll

A safe, reliable bicycle can make a huge difference for people making their way to work and school and back home in Houston, where the trip can be long and often hazardous.

Freewheels relies on generosity to get bikes to people who need a reliable way to get around: Houstonians who donate bikes that have been sitting, unused, in their garages and volunteers who clean and repair these bikes.

Financial support means that we can buy tubes and other bike parts; supplies; essential safety equipment such as helmets, locks, lights and bells. For $60 and some hard work by our volunteers, Freewheels can repair a bike and outfit a rider.

Since its launch in 2015, Freewheels has provided bikes to more than 2,500 people–refugees, veterans and middle and high school students. Freewheels bicycles provide everyday transportation that enables people from underserved communities to get to work and school and stay healthy and connected.

“Our volunteers are working hard to clean and repair bikes. Right now, we’re pushing about 60 donated bikes through our repair pipeline every month,” said Bill Mintz, Freewheels Houston’s executive director and founder. “Please help keep up the momentum with your contribution today.”

“Do you remember the freedom that you enjoyed the first time you were able to ride your bike to school, the park and other destinations?” Mintz asked. “Our customers face unique challenges adapting to their new lives in Houston. They should have an opportunity to experience that same joy of riding.”
